M18 Ultrasonic Detecting Clear Films

A Kent based manufacturer of printed film has benefited from the installation of the new range of Contrinex ultrasonic sensors.

Joe Williamson of More Control, the Milton Keynes based technical distributor of Contrinex sensors was invited to construct a splice detection system. A key factor in the success of the system was to reliably sense the web in two places.

The thin film manufactured can be clear or printed, and has always been a challenge to detect using traditional photoelectric sensors. Some success had been gained with a capacitive type, but the life of these is reduced due to static build up damaging the sensitive electronic components.
